Cute Things

August 5, 2011

I hate checking mail! Not email; the old postman, two bills and a million flyers, snail mail! Having dodged it for weeks, after much struggle today, I dragged my feet to the mailbox around the corner and came back home with a 4 inch thick stack of multi-colored shiny pieces of paper, 99.9% of which will end up in garbage moments later. Somebody needs to take a satellite picture of me holding all this paper waste and send it to Al Gore!

Anyways, after all the tearing and shredding, at the bottom of the stack I found a small yellow envelope with our names on it. I turned it over and it said “If undelivered return to: Uroos Ali …” followed by an address. I opened the envelope, and inside I found the cutest little card congratulating us on the birth of our little one! Now, we’ve meet Uroos twice, one for the initial client meeting, and second when she came by to sign everything for her wedding this December. But the fact that she actually kept up with what was going on in our lives, and took the time to go out, find a card and mail it, means a LOT to us! I immediately went upstairs, woke Mehreen up and started waving the card in her face.

So Uroos and Khalid, we couldn’t just send you a lame email saying thank you, which you’ll still get. Your card gets its own entire blog post!

Oh, btw, Afroz turned a month old today!

What a blur of excitement this last week has been! We covered Hashim and Mehvish’s perfect wedding in Toronto starting from their Nikaah, to Mayoun, to Mehndi, to Shaadi and finally Valima. It was all a perfect mélange of colors, music, ceremonies, and immaculate Urdu (the language of choice for MCs on all days) we haven’t heard since our Grade 12 final exams in Pakistan.

Mehvish had been in Dubai till about a few weeks ago and so our point of contact had mostly been Hashim and Mehvish’s brother Faraz on her side. We met Mehvish for the first time at the wedding, and she is the cutest, shyest, most sweetest bride on this planet ever! She was so nervous and shy that when we asked her to look at Hashim for one of the portrait shots, she couldn’t for more than a few seconds and had to look away all red in the face! As the days went by, she opened up with us, and with some guidance she was rocking the pictures in no time.

Hashim, Mehvish, congratulations to both of you and your families once again, and we wish you a very long, happy, prosperous life together Insha’Allah. May you stay forever smiling. Aameen!

This past weekend we covered Saima and Awais’ three day wedding in Toronto. We started off with Nikah on Friday, followed by Mehndi on Saturday, and finally the Reception on Sunday. On the reception day, we also did their wedding shoot at the uber cool Thompson Toronto. We got tons of amazing shots from all three days. We did a highlights reel for the couple on Sunday night even including some shots from the shoot in the afternoon. We got so many compliments on the slideshow at the wedding that it made all the running around and stress totally worth it!

We wanted to tell the story of the entire wedding, and there are so many other great shots that didn’t make the cut because of the time constraints in this slideshow. We are going to be posting many of those images in the days to come. For now, we hope you enjoy our first wedding for 2011! Don’t forget to leave us some love.

Happy 2011 everyone! Here are a few of our favourite shots from Alison and Marc’s wedding earlier this summer. Enjoy!
